Shifu Yan Fei is an educational, professional and technically highly skilled coach. She is undoubtedly an important resource for the development of Chinese martial arts in Oslo, Norway and Europe.
Yan Fei – Martial Artist

Yan Fei (formerly Yan Xinya) was born into a very traditional family from Henan Province, China. She remembers having some training from her great-grandfather, Kou Yunxing, who, as early as 1936, was in the official Chinese showcasing team. The team showed Chinese martial arts to the world during the Berlin Olympics that year. This video survives of the occasion, he can be seen doing demonstrations alone and with a shorter team mate.

Her grandmother, Kou Fengxian, is also a strong and well-known personality in Chinese martial arts. She became part of the International Wushu Federation when it was founded in 1991.

Her father, Yan Qianzhi, became a highly respected top level coach & trainer in Henan Province. He achieved the level of 7 duan in Kung Fu.

Shifu Yan Fei started training as a three year old with her grandmother and father as coaches. When she was nine, she was taken into Henan Province’s talent team and began seeking a career as a competitor. Through many top achievements in youth championships, she became a student of Li Decheng, head coach of the Henan Province team.

She took 11 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze medals in regional and national youth competitions. She was also awarded the talent team in Henan’s best performer and she was awarded the Honorary Prize Yiji Wushi (Warrior Award). She has achieved the level of 6 duan in Kung Fu.

When she completed her college studies and competing, she started working as a professional trainer in China and worked at a school in Suzhou, close to Shanghai. At this school she taught in both martial arts and yoga for over 10 years before she moved to Norway.
